Week #1: August 12-16, 2019

Welcome to Fourth Grade! It was great to meet many of you at the Ice Cream Social Meet and Greet on Friday. I am excited to start this school year! This week we will work on getting to know each other better, classroom routines and rituals, along with Manchester’s rules and procedures. We will also dig into fourth grade academics with place value, geography terms, writing, and begin our literature study! As you can see, it will be a busy first week in room 6.
This week’s homework for students is the Autobiography Poster Board project. Most students picked up the directions and poster board for this assignment on Friday, but those who were not able to make it are bringing that home today. We reviewed the directions and some examples to make sure everyone knows what to do.
Manchester is using a new communication tool this year called Blupods for the “Back to School” packet of forms that must be completed by a parent annually (Emergency Card, Technology Acceptable Use, etc.). Blupods is very user friendly, and can be accessed on a phone or computer. Please see the handout from Blupods to get started. If you need help, the office staff is ready to help parents with this process. Blupods will also be used for field trip permission slips.
There are a few supplies students will be needing, if you are not able to purchase individual supplies, students may borrow classroom supplies daily. The supply list was on students’ desks (in the parent handout packet) for Friday’s Meet and Greet. Those packets are coming home in Manchester folders for those who were unable to make it.
Back to School Night for parents is on Thursday, August 15th with a classroom presentation in Room 6 at 5:30, and a school wide presentation in the cafeteria at 6:20. I will share important information about classroom expectations, procedures, curriculum, projects, study trips, volunteer opportunities, Blupods, and answer any questions you may have. If you are new to Manchester, the information session in the cafeteria will help you learn more about school-wide programs.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me anytime at Manchester (248-7220), via email (, or you can call or text my cell (964-7288). When texting please include your child’s name in your text message. You can also visit our class website at for classroom information and updates.
I look forward to a fun and successful school year!
