Week #2: August 20-24, 2018

We had a great first week of school getting to know each other and learning about how things work in our new classroom. The students seem to be very comfortable with each other and are making new friends quickly. We spent a lot of time on Friday learning about each other when students presented their Autobiography Boards.

This week we will increase our academics in all areas, so get ready for some work! Students will record our daily work in their planner and mark if needs to be finished for homework. It is expected for students to take unfinished classwork home to complete for homework. It should be ready to turn in the next day. Planners will begin to come home on Monday. Please sign at the bottom of the planner, under where students have wrote their card color for the day (in the Social Studies Section).

Please click on the Classroom Newsletter below to get more detailed information about our week. Have a great week!

Classroom Newsletter #2

Week #1: August 13-17, 2018

Welcome to Fourth Grade! It was great to meet most of you at the Ice Cream Social Meet and Greet on Friday. I am excited to start this school year! This week we will work on getting to know each other better, classroom routines and rituals, along with Manchester’s rules and procedures. We will also dig into fourth grade academics, as we begin our first Math topic on Place Value, dive into reading with Reader’s Workshop and our Literature Study of Island of the Blue Dolphins, begin a Genre Study on poetry and poets in Writer’s Workshop, and study Geography in Social Studies. As you can see, it will be a busy first week in room 6.

This week’s homework project for students is the Autobiography Poster Board. Most students picked up the directions and poster board for this assignment on Friday, but those who were not able to make it are bringing that home today. Parents have a lot of homework this week, as there are many forms that went home in the first day packet. Please return the important forms (those needing to be filled out and signed) from that packet to school as soon as possible. There are a few supplies students will be needing, if you are not able to purchase individual supplies, students may borrow classroom supplies daily.

Back to School Night for parents is on Thursday, August 16th with classroom presentations at 6:30 OR 7:15 pm. I will share important information about classroom expectations, procedures, curriculum, projects, study trips, volunteer opportunities, and answer any questions you may have. If you are new to Manchester, there is an information session in the cafeteria for school-wide information before classroom presentations at 6:00 p.m.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me anytime at Manchester (248-7220), via email (, or you can call or text my cell (964-7288). When texting please include your child’s name in your text message. I will be working on setting up my email list this week and will begin sending classroom updates via email starting next week. Please return your purple communication for as soon as possible, if you have not yet done so.

I look forward to a fun and successful school year!

Room 6 Supply List

*Ear buds/Headphones were added to the supply list, my summer brain left them off of the initial letter you recieved from Manchester. We will not be needed them until next week, so no hurry. Student may also borrow headphones if they can not purchase some.

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

Hello Room 6 Fourth Graders!

Are you ready for fourth grade? I am excited to meet you and get our year started!

Manchester's Meet and Greet Ice Cream Social will be on Friday, August 10th, from 3:00-4:00. I hope you get a chance to stop by and check out our room. You can bring your supplies and move-in to your desk if you would like to! I have attached the Welcome Letter/Supply List below. This is the same letter the office sent to you. One thing I forgot to put on our supply list is ear buds, since we have one-to-one computers in Room 6, everyone needs their own ear buds or headphones.

The first day of school is Monday, August 13th. I will meet you out on the blacktop on our number. Don't forget we are Room 6!

Enjoy your last few days of summer. It is going to be a great year!

Welcome Letter
